Another provision would require that any initiative petition filed starting in 2024, proposing an amendment to the Ohio Constitution will have to be signed by at least five percent of the electors of each 88 of Ohio’s counties, based on the total vote in the county for governor in the last preceding election. The current requirement is that a simple majority (50 percent plus one vote) is sufficient for a voter-considered amendment. If approved, State Issue I would require that any proposed amendment to the Ohio Constitution receive the approval of at least 60 percent of the eligible voters voting on the proposed amendment.
